Kerala Heath Minister Confirms Third Monkeypox Case In State

New Delhi: Kerala Health Minister Veena George on Friday confirmed that the state has reported a third monkeypox case in Malappuram.

As per George, a 35-year-old man who recently returned from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in early July was found infected with the virus.

He returned to his home state on July 6 and is undergoing treatment at Manjeri Medical College in Thiruvananthapuram.

Presently, the infected person's condition is stable and the health department has asked those persons who have come in contact with him to go into isolation.

Meanwhile, the district health administration of Malappuram has begun contact tracing to contain the spread of the virus.

India's second monkeypox virus was reported in Kerala's Kannur district on July 18, while India's first case of monkeypox was detected in Kerala's Kollam district on July 14.

The Union Health Ministry had also issued guidelines for the management of Monkeypox diseases after the first case was detected.

According to the guidelines released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, international passengers should avoid close contact with sick people including those with skin lesions and genital lesions, and avoid contact with dead or live wild animals such as small mammals including rodents (rats, squirrels) and non-human primates (monkeys, apes).
